Thesemodelfinancialstatementsweredevelopedtoillustratethetypicaldisclosureswhichwillberequiredof
aUKlistedcompanywithsubsidiariesandassociatesreportingunderIFRSsforboththecompanyand
consolidatedfinancialstatementsfor2005.Thisdocumentcontainsonlythemodelfinancialstatementsand
omitsthefrontsectionoftheannualreportwhichwouldcontainthedirectors’reportandothernarrative
statementsrequiredtomeetlocalregulatoryrequirements.Materialthatisincludedinthisdocumenttomeet
specificUKrequirementsandspecificreferencestoUKGAAPhavebeenhighlightedonayellow
background.
Themodelfinancialstatementsarebasedonstandardsinissueasat31May2004whichareexpectedtobe
effectiveforyearsbeginningonorafter1January2005.TheyalsoreflecttheproposedamendmentstoIAS
19issuedbytheIASBinApril2004ontheassumptionthattheywillbeapprovedandbecomeeffectivein
2005.Theremaybechangestostandardswhichbecomeeffectivein2005whichdifferfromthoseexpected
atthetimeofpreparation.InadditiontheinterpretationofIFRSswillcontinuetoevolveovertime.
Inmanycasesthewordingusedinthemodelfinancialstatementsispurelyillustrativeandinpracticewill
needtobemodifiedtoreflectthecircumstancesofthegroup.
