1 Look at the pictures. Choose your birthday present.

It’s so great! There are so many birthday presents here. The first one is a cinema ticket. But my mother never goes to the cinema. So I shouldn’t give her a cinema ticket. What about the seventh one? It is a silk shirt. Yes, it is a great idea to give my mother a silk shirt on her birthday. She often wears silk shirts. What about other presents here? Can you tell me what they are?

2 Read and choose birthday presents for the people.

On page 50 is a passage about choosing birthday presents. Read the passage. While reading try to cut(断句)/ the sentences into parts, blacken(涂黑)the predicates, shade(加影)the connectives and underline(划线)the expressions.

Now write all the expressions in your Expression Book.

3 Complete the sentences.

The passage before tells us different habits of different people. We all learn a lot about their habits. Daming’s uncle likes reading. Daming’s mother likes candy and clothes. Tony’s sister likes music and singing. Lingling’s father likes football match and novels. Betty’s aunt and uncle like music and watching TV. Now, let’s choose presents for them. Can you think of the best present for each of them?

Daming’s uncle:

His birthday present is a cinema ticket / a book / a magazine.

Daming’s mother:

Her birthday present is a box of candy / a silk shirt / clothes.

Tony’s sister:

Lingling’s father:

4 Write these sentences with’(apostrophe).

Betty’s brother likes music. My brother likes football. Lingling’s mother likes reading. My mother likes singing. Tony’s sister often goes to concerts. My sister usually goes to the cinema. Write these following sentences with apostrophe. Pay attention to the use of it.

Daming’s uncle likes books, but he doesn’t like football.

Betty’s aunt and uncle like the cinema. Their favourite film is Lord the Rings.

Tony’s sister often buys CDs by her favourite singers.

Lingling’s father doesn’t go to football matches. He watches TV.

Daming’s mother doesn’t wear jeans.

5 Make a list of things you like and do.

I like Japanese pop music. My favourite band is ZARD. I like singing and I sing quite well. I often go out for a walk. I like the fresh air outside. I like watching American TV series. I usually watch many films at weekends. But I never go to the cinema, because I like watching films by myself. I like reading very much. But I never read novels these days. I like reading poems and prose. I travel a lot in my summer holiday. My favourite city in China is Qingdao. She is so beautiful.

6 Work in pairs. Talk about things you like and do.

Work with your partner. Just talk about things you like and do. Say as many things as you can.

Now write a description of your partner.

My partner’s name is Cathy. She likes cartoons very much. She often watches cartoons on TV. She also likes painting. She often draws very beautiful pictures. Cathy likes making cakes. She usually gives her friends a nice cake on their birthday. She likes climbing mountains. She usually climbs the mountain with her family on holiday. She doesn’t like football matches. Work with your partner. Ask questions like the following examples.

2 Put the word in brackets in the correct place in the sentence.
